ARTEMIS simulations

This video shows the formation of a Milky Way-type galaxy in a cosmological context. The left panel, in blue, shows the assembly of the stellar distribution in this galaxy, while the right panel, in red, shows the assembly of the gas.

The evolution of this galaxy is followed for approximately a Hubble time (13.7 billion years).

The entire sample of (45) cosmological simulations of Milky Way-mass galaxies is described in more detail in this paper.
